Readers gave Madisonians high scores for their friendliness, intelligence, quirkiness, athletics - and their good looks. For a night out, locals have dozens of bars and concert venues to choose from, something that gives Madison high points for its singles scene.

Houston’s high attractiveness ranking doesn’t rely alone on the fact that Beyonce calls this Texas metropolis home. Readers also cite the city’s fondness for fashion, helped along by the enormous Galleria Mall’s 375 luxury shops. Houston is also notable for its 337 parks, highly regarded Houston symphony, ballet, and opera companies.
8. Denver, Colorado
Hiking, skiing, and boarding are all popular pursuits that help keep locals active. For socializing, there are nearly 60 breweries in the city itself. Residents also give residents high marks for their hometown pride.
7. Charleston, South Carolina
Antebellum residences and hip restaurants define Charleston’s downtown. Besides the captivating buildings, food scene, and waterfront views, the city is also well regarded for its residents’ good looks and Southern charm.

Readers say this country music mecca’s locals are tops for their effortless casual looks, accented, of course, with plenty of denim.

With almost year-round sunshine, San Diegans regularly take to the outdoors, whether it’s early-morning surfing, bicycling, or jogging in the canyons and along the shoreline. They, along with the city’s visitors, may choose to end their day with a pint at one of San Diego’s more than 130 craft breweries.
4. Salt Lake City, Utah
Salt Lake City earns top marks for its cleanliness (the sidewalks are spotless) and its eight nearby ski resorts.During warmer months, active residents take to the Bonneville Shoreline Trail, comprised of biking and walking paths following the shores of the ancient Lake Bonneville.

Residents of this Arizona destination take full advantage of its roughly 300 days of sunshine a year. Besides staying active in the outdoors, locals find relaxation at the spas. There are more per capita than anywhere else in the U.S., says Travel + Leisure. Readers say the area is also notable for its over-abundance of luxury boutiques.

Located at the base of the foothills of the Rockies, this university town scores especially high among readers. Chautauqua Park, home to the Flatiron rock formations, is a favorite for hiking. Come winter, everyone heads to the slopes.
1. Honolulu, Hawaii
Another destination known for its superb weather, Honolulu is ideal for active-minded residents, whether it’s hiking up Diamond Head or surfing at Waikiki. It’s doubtful, though, that the iconic Hawaiian shirt was a factor in the attractiveness quotient for locals.
