It’s time to lace up those skates and get to gliding. Local ice rinks are welcoming all levels of skate-enthusiasts this Thanksgiving weekend, so you can get to work right away on that triple-axel.

Skating by the Sea at Hotel del Coronado

Located on the Windsor Lawn of the Hotel del Coronado, Skating by the Sea stirs up winter wonder with beach vibes. The Del’s iconic Victorian Building is adorned with thousands of white lights during the season, providing a magical backdrop. Stretching out in front of you? A stunning ocean view.

Fantasy on Ice in Liberty Station

This outdoor rink in the Arts District of Liberty Station welcomes all levels of ice skaters to flutter around while benefiting the Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego. Family skate sessions take place during the day, and as the sun sets, adults come to skate at a faster pace with fun music.

Viejas Ice Rink

This seasonal rink is the largest outdoor ice skating facility in Southern California. Under the glow of holiday lights, skate your day away. This season, catch movies on the ice with showings of “Home Alone” on Nov. 24, “The Grinch” on Dec. 10 and “Frozen” on Dec. 17.

UTC Ice

During the busy holiday season, you can knock out your holiday shopping, then celebrate with some ice skating at the indoor UTC Ice Sports Center. For spectators, there’s a glass-enclosed terrace upstairs. Free sessions for first-time skaters are held every Saturday morning.

Ice-plex Escondido

Ice-plex in Escondido offers two Olympic-sized ice rinks with public skating sessions seven days a week. There’s also beginner hockey or skating school classes if you’re just starting out.
