Fit Friday: Reclining spinal twist

When you're feeling stressed and need to simply stretch, breathe and take a moment for yourself, this is a great go-to yoga pose to keep in mind.

The reclining spinal twist helps to lengthen the spine and waistline. It also stretches your back, glutes, neck, hips and iliotibial (IT) band. This move is said to be especially helpful with stress relief.

To perform:

Lie down with your back on the floor, with your gaze up to the ceiling. Begin to lift your right leg over your left leg. You will hook your right leg onto your left by placing your right thigh on top of your left leg and your right calf below your left leg. You can place your hands at your sides or on your legs during this move. Keep your gaze upward and breathe for 10 deep breaths. Repeat on the opposite side.
