Rally to celebrate America’s Finest City
There has been a lot of strife among San Diego sports fans - particularly Chargers fans - lately. But a rally on Saturday, with some big names in attendance, hopes to bring the city together in celebration.
The free public rally will feature appearances from Hall of Fame former Padres reliever Trevor Hoffman, Padres Manager Andy Green, former Chargers player Nick Hardwick, San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman, San Diego Gulls Head Coach Dallas Eakins, and others.
Guests in attendance will score a Celebrate San Diego hat from Sycuan to commemorate the event. On hand will be music, interactive games, a Kids Zone, photo booths, games in the Park at the Park, photos with local mascots. The Padres Hall of Fame also will be open. A beer garden will be serving up some cold suds and select Petco Park concession stands will be open for other food and drink options.
The best part: Bring one piece of Chargers clothing or a Chargers hat and, in exchange, you’ll receive a $25 credit at the Padres Majestic Team Store good through May 4, 2017.
Gates for the event open at 10 a.m. at the Park at the Park (entrances will be open at the Gaslamp Gate on Seventh Avenue and K Street or the East Village Gate on 10th Avenue) and the party goes until 3 p.m. The Celebrate San Diego Rally will begin at 1 p.m.
The event is a collaboration between the San Diego Padres, San Diego Gulls, San Diego Sockers, San Diego State Aztecs, University of San Diego Toreros, UCSD Tritons and the City of San Diego.
