‘American Idol’ lands in San Diego for the last time
Over the years, ‘American Idol’ auditions in San Diego have proven quite fruitful for the show, producing superstars Adam Lambert and Jessica Sanchez.
Lambert, who attended Mount Carmel High School in Rancho Peñasquitos, won Season 8 in 2009, and Sanchez, who went to Eastlake High School in Chula Vista, was the runner-up three years ago.
The tryouts for the 15th and final season of the Fox singing competition took place Monday at the Waterfront Park outside the County Administration Center, attracting only 1,500 aspiring singers (compared to over 12,000 in 2007).

Currently, ‘American Idol’ has two audition buses traveling to various cities and more formal auditions are scheduled next month at arenas in Denver, Philadelphia, and San Francisco (among others).
