Good news: Pearl Jam announced its 2020 tour dates have been rescheduled for this year. Even better news: that tour kicks off in San Diego with a May 3 concert at San Diego State University’s Viejas Arena.

Due to COVID-19 concerns, the Seattle-based rock band canceled its 2020 tour a month shy of its San Diego show, originally scheduled for April 13, 2020 at the same venue.

The rescheduled tour promotes Pearl Jam’s 11th studio album “Gigaton” — released during the pandemic in late March 2020 — as well as marks more than 30 years on stage for the group. Touring member Josh Klinghoffer serves as the opening act for the shows with his solo project, Pluralone.

After its San Diego show, Pearl Jam will perform concerts in 16 additional cities across the United States and Canada. Six of those tour stops are in California, with Los Angeles and Oakland hosting two concerts each.

The first half of the North American tour will start on the West Coast during the month of May, then resume in September. (In June, Pearl Jam will cross the pond and perform rescheduled European tour dates for two months.)

Three members of the five-piece band are former San Diegans, including lead singer Eddie Vedder. Though Pearl Jam hasn’t performed in San Diego since 2013, Vedder just paid El Cajon a visit last month with a show at The Magnolia alongside his new band The Earthlings. Additionally, Vedder and Pearl Jam were both headlining acts at the 2021 Ohana Festival in nearby Dana Point last September.
