Heart, reunited after estrangement, returns with Joan Jett and Elle King in tow

Nancy and Ann Wilson are back together in Heart this summer and back on tour, following a rift between the sisters that began in late 2016.

There is some intrigue behind the reunion of Heart after three years, but no one’s talking.

The band, led by sisters Nancy and Ann Wilson (the latter a San Diego native), was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. The Wilson sisters grew up, in part, in La Jolla and at Camp Pendleton, where their father was a U.S. military officer.

Heart imploded in 2016, after Ann’s husband was arrested on charges that he had assaulted Nancy’s two teen sons. The estranged sisters subsequently launched solo careers that made little impact.

It is unclear whether Ann and Nancy’s reunion for a 2019 summer tour with Heart was inspired by creative considerations or financial ones.

Either way, the band they have co-led since its inception in 1973 performs here Tuesday at North Island Credit Union Amphitheater with a lineup that includes San Diego-bred guitarist Craig Bartock, a veteran touring member of Heart.

Elle King opens the show, which also features 2015 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Joan Jett and her band, The Blackhearts.

Heart, with Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Elle King: 7 p.m. Tuesday. North Island Credit Union Amphitheater, 2050 Entertainment Circle, Chula Vista. $22.50-$140, plus service charges. livenation.com
