7.30: The Drums
The Drums, aka singer/songwriter/producer Jonny Pierce, released their (his) fifth studio album, Brutalism, in April. Pierce also co-produced it.

8.1: Talib Kweli & Z-Trip
The veteran MC/half of iconic duo Black Star played the same venue last year and returns after teaming with Damu The Fudgemunk on the single Time Leak and featuring on Connie Price and The Keystones’ Woman In My Bloodstream. This time, he also brings mashup pioneer Z-Trip with him.

8.2: Rascal Flatts
The veteran country trio returns to Chula Vista less than a year after last playing there and much has changed. Not only is the name of the venue different, the band closed last year by releasing a four-track covers EP with songs originally performed by Foreigner, Hall & Oates, Kenny Loggins and Huey Lewis. Their Summer Playlist tour also includes performances by Morgan Evans and Jordan Davis.

8.2: 91X Sun Fiesta
The long-running alternative radio station throws an all-ages party at the Padres house and invites Head and the Heart, Lovelytheband, SYML and Twin XL to play.

8.2: NGHTMRE
Connecticut-born/L.A.-based producer Tyler Marenyi last played OMNIA in January and makes a return trip after teaming with Lil Jon and three-time NBA Finals MVP Shaquille O’Neal on the February-released single, Bang. Marenyi also joined forces with A$AP Ferg on the single, Redlight, in March and a Flosstradamus remix of the song followed in April.

8.2: Guy J
Recently nominated in the “Progressive House” category for the upcoming 22nd annual DJ Awards in Ibiza this September, Israeli producer and DJ Guy J released his latest single, the two-track Synthopia/Cicada, in April. Spanish DJ/producer Dosem also is on the bill.

8.3: Downtown Throwdown
It’s back-to-back festivals at the ballpark to kick off the month – this one calling itself a throwdown, but it’s really more of a throwback. Vanilla Ice headlines a lineup that also includes Coolio, All-4-One, Color Me Badd and Young MC. Nice, nice, baby!

8.3: Chuckie
Chuckie (aka Suriname-born, Aruba-based DJ/producer Clyde Narain) made his name as a pioneer/purveyor of the “Dirty Dutch” style. Narain has remixed the likes of Shakira, Rihanna, and Black Eyed Peas, and released his latest two singles, How You Feelin’ and Face Down, in March.

8.4: Goldroom
Boston-born, L.A.-based DJ and musician Goldroom (aka Josh Legg) reprises his role as host of this at-sea soiree from last year. Legg released a pair of three-song mini EPs, Surface and Plunge, both comprising recent singles, in June. The 2019 version of this party on the water also features sets from Le Youth and Eau Claire. 8.4: DJ Pauly D
DJ Pauly D, better known as Paul DelVecchio of MTV reality show Jersey Shore, heads back to San Diego for a daytime set after last DJing the venue on New Year’s Eve. DelVecchio’s latest single, Silver and Gold (feat. James Kaye), was released in April.

8.4: Jill Scott
The actress and three-time Grammy-winning R&B singer returns to Shelter Island for the first time in four years, after last playing at Copley Symphony Hall in 2017. Scott hasn’t released original music since 2015’s No. 1 album, Woman, but the Hidden Beach label did offer up a new compilation, By Popular Demand, last September.
