Spin Cycle: August EDM + DJ performances

Performances coming to San Diego in August include NGHTMRE, DJ Pauly D, Ookay and Arty.

8.2: NGHTMRE

Connecticut-born/L.A.-based producer Tyler Marenyi last played OMNIA in January and makes a return trip after teaming with Lil Jon and three-time NBA Finals MVP Shaquille O’Neal on the February-released single, Bang. Marenyi also joined forces with A$AP Ferg on the single, Redlight, in March and a Flosstradamus remix of the song followed in April.

8.2: Guy J

Recently nominated in the “Progressive House” category for the upcoming 22nd annual DJ Awards in Ibiza this September, Israeli producer and DJ Guy J released his latest single, the two-track Synthopia/Cicada, in April. Spanish DJ/producer Dosem also is on the bill.

8.3: Chuckie

Chuckie (aka Suriname-born, Aruba-based DJ/producer Clyde Narain) made his name as a pioneer/purveyor of the “Dirty Dutch” style. Narain has remixed the likes of Shakira, Rihanna, and Black Eyed Peas, and released his latest two singles, How You Feelin’ and Face Down, in March.

8.4: Goldroom

Boston-born, L.A.-based DJ and musician Goldroom (aka Josh Legg) reprises his role as host of this at-sea soiree from last year. Legg released a pair of three-song mini EPs, Surface and Plunge, both comprising recent singles, in June. The 2019 version of this party on the water also features sets from Le Youth and Eau Claire. Ahoy, mateys!

8.4: DJ Pauly D

DJ Pauly D, better known as Paul DelVecchio of MTV reality show Jersey Shore, heads back to San Diego for a daytime set after last DJing the venue on New Year’s Eve. DelVecchio’s latest single, Silver and Gold (feat. James Kaye), was released in April.

8.9: Ookay

San Diego-born, L.A.-based DJ/producer Ookay (aka Abe Laguna) famously teamed up with Diplo to remix Avicii’s You Make Me and has also worked with the likes of Borgore, Showtek, and Marshmello. Laguna’s full-length debut, the 12-track Wow! Cool Album!, was released last year, and most recently, he joined forces with MAX and Quinn XCII for a remix of the June single Love Me Less.

8.10: MAKJ

It’s been a pretty busy year so far for San Luis Obispo-based house DJ MAKJ. The artist born Mackenzie Johnson has already released a handful of singles – Ls6 with BlumBros, Grow Like This (feat. DeMarco) with Tropkillaz and WILL K, Beast with Purari, and most recently, June’s Rave (feat. Kris Kiss) with Showtek and Steve Aoki.

8.10: Tube & Berger

Arndt Rörig and Marco Vidovic, aka German DJ/production duo Tube & Berger, started as a punk band, but broke into electronic music with the 2004 song, Straight Ahead, which featured The Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde on vocals. Their latest single, Guess Who’s Jack, was released last month.

8.17: Goldfish

South African-born, now San Diego-based electronic duo Goldfish (longtime friends Dominic Peters and David Poole) released two new singles last year – Hold Your Kite with Sorana and It Was You with Zeeba. The latter got both the acoustic and live session treatment on the pair’s latest two-track release in March.

8.23: Bingo Players

Dutch DJ/producer Maarten Hoogstraten continues to perform under the moniker he once shared with one-time collaborator/co-founder of Hysteria Records, Paul Baumer. Since Baumer’s death in 2013, Hoogstraten has released a handful of tracks and performed at OMNIA last year as part of the duo’s 10th Anniversary tour. Hoogstraten’s latest single, 1000 Years, was released in March.

8.24: Andy Moor

U.K. trance DJ and producer Andrew Beardmore (aka Andy Moor) has remixed the likes of Britney Spears, Vangelis, Armin van Buuren, and Tiësto. Last year, he joined forces with Markus Schulz and Gabriel & Dresden to curate the 48-track, three-mixes-in-one In Search of Sunrise 14 collection.

8.30: Dada Life

Olle Cornéer and Stefan Engblom of Swedish DJ/production duo Dada Life released their latest single, No More 54, in April. And while the pair continues to work together in the studio, it’s only been Engblom who has hit the road for live performances. But this stop in San Diego is part of what the pair is calling “a very special run of 10th anniversary shows,” so who knows?

8.30: Tramps Like Us

LED’s annual 18+, all-night phenomenon returns to the Pechanga Arena boasting an impressive lineup that includes the Grammy-nominated Swedish headliners Galantis, along with Kill The Noise, Ekali, Midnight Tyrannosaurus, Dabin and more.

8.31 Arty

Russian DJ and producer Arty (aka Artyom Stoliarov) was just here in February, after last performing locally in 2017 as Alpha 9. Stoliarov returns for the second time in a row under his main moniker, now with newish single, May’s Sunshine, under his belt.
