TLC headed to Pechanga for post-Coachella concert Saturday

Share

Will Weezer front man Rivers Cuomo pop in for a cameo performance with TLC Saturday at Pechanga?

It’s possible, if unlikely.

But on April 18 during the opening weekend of the the 2019 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, Cuomo and Weezer had TLC’s Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas come out to sing “No Scrubs.” Not coincidentally, that 1999 TLC hit is featured on Weezer’s new all-covers album, “Teal.”

Singers Thomas and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins co-founded TLC in 1990 with rapper Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes — the “L” in TLC — who died in a 2002 car crash at the age of 22.

After a hiatus of more than a decade, Thomas and Watkins reunited under the TLC banner in 2013.

At its best, their distinctive brand of hip-hop soul sounds no less spirited today than in the group’s heyday in the 1990s.
