Deftones, Future, Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda, Rocket From The Crypt and more to do Petco Park show

Eight bands and solo artists — including the hard-rocking Deftones, Atlanta rapper Future and Linkin Park vocalist Mike Shinoda — will perform in San Diego on Nov. 3 at a marathon concert being billed as “the first annual Dia de los Deftones.”

To be held at Petco Park’s Park at the Park, with a 2 p.m. start time, the all-ages show is being curated by Deftones. It is one of only four U.S. dates the Sacramento-bred band has scheduled for the rest of this year.

The Dia de Los Deftones lineup will be completed by the pioneering San Diego post-punk band Rocket From The Crypt, punk-meets-hip-hop duo H09909, 22-year-old singer and rapper Doja Cat, Italian death-metal band Veins and consonant-friendly electronic death-pop duo Vowws. In a statement released Monday morning, Deftones’ singer/guitarist Chino Moreno said: “For years, we’ve played on festivals with such amazing and diverse line-ups and that is what we have achieved with our first line-up for Dia de Los Deftones. We want this event to be a celebration; with the incredible artists we’ve assembled, and the experiences we’re curating for the festival site, it’s going to be a wonderful day and night for all who join us.”

Perhaps by coincidence, Moreno performs on Shinoda’s new song, ”Lift Off,” which also features rapper machine Gun Kelly. It remains to be seen if the two collaborate on stage here at Dia de Los Deftones — or if Deftones preview any songs from the band’s still-in-progress new album.

Other music shows have been held at the three-acre Park at the Park, including a punk-rock concert last year headlined by Rancid and 2016’s all-electronic-music GROUNDWATER festival. Attendance for GROUNDWATER was capped at 5,000. No capacity has been announced as yet for Dia de Los Deftones.
