Slightly Stoopid set for 4th annual '91X presents BeerX' at Waterfront Park

Slightly Stoopid will headline the fourth annual “91X presents BeerX” festival June 23 at downtown San Diego’s Waterfront Park.

The lineup for the 21-and-up music and brews marathon also includes Stick Figure, Pepper and what is being billed the original lineup of Fishbone, plus the Ethan Tucker Band and Marujah.

Last year’s edition of the festival drew a capacity crowd of 8,500, according to San Diego radio station 91X-FM, the event’s sponsor.

The San Diego-based Slightly Stoopid holds the record by any musical act, national or international, for the most headlining performances at Chula Vista’s nearly 20,000-capacity Mattress Firm Amphitheatre. The jam-happy band is kicking off its summer tour with Stick Figure and Pepper in June.

More than 100 craft beers will be featured at BeerX, which will also feature food trucks and pop-up restaurants.

Participating breweries include Abnormal Beer Co., Avery Brewing, Artifex Brewing, Faction Brewing, Four Sons Brewing, Novo Brazil Brewing, Pizza Port Brewing, Ska Brewing, Stone Brewing, Three Weavers Brewing, Thr3e Punk Ales, Unsung Brewing, and Wild Barrel Brewing Co. More will be announced.

Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. at beerxsandiego.com.

Prices are as follows: $35 (concert only, 4 p.m. entry); $49 (craft beer tasting and concert ticket, 1 p.m. entry); $129.50 (VIP Lounge access, craft beer tasting, concert ticket and noon entry); and $229.50 (stand-on-stage-viewing, VIP Lounge access, craft beer tasting, concert ticket and noon entry). These prices do not include service charges.

San Diego Union-Tribune music critic George Varga began drumming in rock bands at 12 and writing professionally about music at 15. After attending San Diego City College and San Diego State University, he created and taught the 2002 UC San Diego Extension course, “Jazz in a Post-Ken-Burns World.” Varga has written liner notes for more than a dozen albums, including by jazz sax greats James Moody and Michael Brecker, and contributed two chapters to the book, “Dylan: Disc By Disc.”
