Veronica May, gifted troubadour by night, music therapist by day
Veronica May is a musician by night and a music therapist by day. She has bipolar 1 disorder, a condition that gives her first-hand insights about just how cathartic music and music therapy can be.
May’s most recent album, this year’s “Awakened,” features such notable talents as Jeff Berkley and Jason Mraz. It alternates between tender ballads and bluesy rockers that reaffirm her status as one of San Diego’s most gifted and arresting troubadours.
You can hear her solo Thursday night at Java Joe’s in Old Town, where she’ll also perform Friday to celebrate the storied venue’s 26th anniversary. The Friday lineup also includes Jeff Berkley, Cici Artemesia, David Beldock, Nina Francis, Billy Galewood, Sven Erik Seaholm and more.
