Country-music dynamo Anna Vaus to sing at 'Carols by Candlelight' this weekend with Hunter Hayes, Jamie O'Neal and Poway Mayor Steve Vaus

Anna Vaus has been on a major roll since she graduated from Poway High School, where she was a standout lacrosse player.

A 2018 graduate of Belmont University’s College of Entertainment and Music Business, in 2016 she became the first-ever recipient of the $40,000 “Women Creators” scholarship, established in 2015 by country-music star Miranda Lambert.

Vaus, 22, released her arresting debut EP, “The California Kid,” on Sept. 28, a year after signing her first music publishing deal.

On Nov. 13, she was named one of County Music Television’s 2019 Next Women of Country honorees.

On Friday and Saturday, Vaus returns from Nashville for the 29th year annual Carols by Candlelight fundraising concert. The benefit for Rady Children’s Hospital was co-founded by her dad, Grammy Award-winning Poway Mayor Steve Vaus. This year’s lineup is headed by Hunter Hayes and Jamie O’Neal. It also features Anna and her father.

And, tonight, Wednesday, Dec. 5, she performs at San Diego’s House of Blues, where she opens for former Staind singer Aaron Lewis at 8 p.m..
