Edgy New York chamber music quartet loadbang to perform at UC San Diego
Named after an electronic-music software command, the cutting-edge New York chamber music quartet loadbang is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.
The group, whose latest album is aptly entitled “Lungpowered,” teams clarinetist Carlos Cordeiro, trombonist William Lang, baritone singer Jeffrey Gavett and trumpeter Andy Kozar.
Their combined credits range from Pierre Boulez, St. Vincent and Philip Glass to the Broadway Bach Ensemble and the Bang on a Can All-Stars.
Since its inception a decade ago, loadbang has debuted more than 250 new pieces of music that have been written by the quartet and an array of composers.
For its Wednesday concert at UC San Diego, loadbang will perform seven selections, including UCSD professor Lei Lang’s “Lakescape V,” a shape-shifting piece that makes remarkable use of space and the silences between notes.
UC San Diego’s Weds@7 presents loadbang: 7 p.m. Wednesday. Conrad Prebys Concert Hall, UC San Diego, 9500 Gilman Drive, La Jolla. $10.50 and $15.50. (858) 534-3448 or music.ucsd.edu/concerts
