Courtney Marie Andrews bringing her heartfelt country, folk and rock to Soda Bar
Courtney Marie Andrews grew up in Arizona, not the Deep South. But this former Phoenix resident’s soaring singing and earthy, frills-free delivery often sounds so much like country-music great Emmylou Harris that longtime fans of Harris may do a double-take upon first hearing Andrews. Happily, at 24, she is starting to carve out her own musical niche. Armed with a potent new album, “May Your Kindness Remain,” she is an increasingly assured songwriter with a golden voice. You can hear for yourself when Andrews — who used to work as a bartender to make ends meet — performs here Saturday at Soda Bar.
Courtney Marie Andrews, with Olivia Kaplan: 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Soda Bar, 3615 El Cajon Blvd., City Heights. $12; must be 21 or older to attend. (619) 255-7224. sodabarmusic.com
