Top concerts this week in San Diego (Oct. 22-28)

Top performers coming to town this week include Alina Baraz, Goldfish, Chris Lake and BØRNS.

10.22: Simple Minds

Don’t you forget about them. The veteran Scottish act released their first album of original material in four years, Walk Between Worlds, last February. As they enter their 42nd year together, founding members Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill are still at the helm.

@ Humphreys Concerts by the Bay,

10.22 ZHU w/ Tokimonsta

The L.A.-based DJ and former CRSSD headliner released his second studio album, Ringos Desert, last month. It features collabs with Tame Impala, JOY, and Majid Jordan, as well as show opener Tokimonsta (aka fellow L.A. DJ Jennifer Lee). The remixes to her 2017 full-length, Lune Rouge, were released earlier this year.

@ Observatory North Park,

10.23: Thievery Corporation

Washington D.C.’s finest sitar-tinged beat makers return to San Diego for a pair of shows with nearly week between them. Julian Marley will provide support for the first date, while DJ Z-Trip is on board for the second.

@ Belly Up,

10.24, 25: Alina Baraz

The 24-year-old singer first teamed with Danish producer Galimatias on her 2015 debut EP, Urban Flora. She followed that by touring with Coldplay and releasing a few singles of her own. Her full-length follow-up, The Color of You, was released in April and features a pair of tracks with Khalid. Read more about Baraz here.

@ Belly Up,

Top Dawg Entertainment labelmate to Kendrick Lamar, the L.A. rapper released his third studio album, Redemption, in June. In addition to Lamar, the album features guest appearances from J. Cole, Future, SZA, and more.

The South African-born Australian pop singer and actor released his second studio album, Bloom, in August. He also is set to appear in the upcoming film Boy Erased, which will be released in the U.S. on Nov. 2.

@ Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre,

10.26: Sikdope

The Polish DJ and producer has kept busy this year, releasing a handful of singles to date — Back Again with Loud About Us, My House, Badder with ATRIP, Bubblegum with ZOOTAH, and last month’s Lost in the Blue (feat. Nevve).

10.26: Chris Lake

It’s also been a massive year for English House DJ and producer Chris Lake. His 2018 credits include an EP, Close Your Eyes, with Walker & Royce, as well as a bunch of singles — Lose My Mind, Pizza with Anti Up and Chris Lorenzo, Y.O.D.O. with Destructo and Deceiver with Green Valet.

@ Spin,

10.27: Dada Life

In addition to the non-album single, Love Vibrations with HI-LO, Olle Cornéer and Stefan Engblom of Swedish House duo, Dada Life released their latest full-length album, Our Nation, last May. And while the pair continues to work together in the studio, it’s only Engblom who still heads out on the road for live shows.

10.27: Stafford Brothers + E-40

It’s not exactly a spooky pairing, but for Halloween weekend, Parq is hosting an EDM and hip-hop double dip with Stafford Brothers and E-40. The Australian-born, L.A.-based DJ siblings team up with the veteran Bay Area rapper, actor, and entrepreneur for what should prove to be an unforgettable night of music.

@ Parq,

10.27: BØRNS

L.A.-based pop singer BØRNS, aka Garrett Borns, released his second studio album, Blue Madonna, at the start of 2018 on Interscope Records. He visits San Diego on his Fruit of Dreams Tour, which will continue through next year.
