Tegan and Sarah to start fall tour in San Diego
Veteran indie folk-pop duo Tegan and Sara will celebrate the 10th anniversary of their fifth album, “The Con,” with a 16-city North American fall tour. It will begin Oct. 20 at San Diego’s Balboa Theatre and conclude Nov. 15 in Austin. All dates and cities appear below.
The Canadian sisters, who do not use their last name, Quinn, are 36-year-old twins. They will perform unplugged versions on the tour of all 14 songs from “The Con,” which provided them with their commercial breakthrough in 2007. Fan favorites from the duo’s back catalog will round out their performances.
In a statement issued Tuesday morning to announce the tour, Tegan said: “The first four records of our career felt like we were navigating winding mountain roads. With ‘The Con,’ it was obvious we had turned a corner and hit an open stretch of highway. It felt like our first fully realized Tegan and Sara record. Which made it then and still makes it now a very important record to us.”
Added Sara: “To launch ‘The Con’ in 2007, we performed the album sequentially. It was a difficult album to translate live, because most of the songs had deep layers of ideas and textures, taken directly from our home demos and made even denser in the studio. Much of the album hasn’t been performed live in nearly a decade and it’s with great pleasure that we take these beloved songs back to the stage.”
Tickets for the tour go on sale Friday at teganandsara.com/shows/. Prices have not yet been announced.
A portion of proceeds from the tour will benefit the Tegan and Sara Foundation, which fights for economic justice, health and representation of LGBTQ girls and women.
