One Direction’s Niall Horan will do 2018 tour and release solo album

There is apparently only one direction for Niall Horan, and that’s to head due west from Europe.

The Irish-born teen-pop star and former One Direction member on Friday announced he will embark on an extensive 2018 U.S. summer tour as part of his “Flicker World Tour 2018.”

The tour is set to begin next July in Texas and conclude next September in Florida. Horan will play at least four shows in California, including one next August 17th at Chula Vista’s Mattress Firm Amphitheatre.

Rising young American country star Maren Morris, who performed at Mattress Firm Amphitheatre Aug. 10 as the opening act for Sam Hunt, will be the opening act for Horan’s U.S. and Canadian tour.

Mattress Firm Amphitheatre has a capacity of nearly 20,000, but it won’t be the largest venue Horan has appeared at in San Diego.

He performed in 2015 at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium. It was the opening date of One Direction’s “On The Road Again Tour,” which also turned out to be the teen-pop group’s farewell trek before going on an indefinite hiatus, which probably won’t end until 1D’s former members are all destitute).

Horan’s 2018 solo tour was announced Friday morning, along with the Oct. 20 release date for his debut solo album, “Flicker.” On Tuesday, he kicks off his “Flicker Sessions 2017 Tour” at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles.

Tickets for Horan’s 2018 U.S. and Canadian dates go on-sale to the general public at 10 a.m. next Friday, Sept. 22, through and by phone at (800) 745-3000.

Tickets for his San Diego concert are priced from $29.50 to $79.50, plus service charges.

A number of pre-sales will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, including for VIP package ticket purchasers, Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program members and Citi Private Pass program members.

These will be followed Thursday by Facebook, Live Nation and Live Nation Mobile App pre-sales. The absence of a pre-sale for people named Zayn or Liam is probably just an oversight.
