The Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation kicks off its 2015-2016 Jacobs Presents season with An Evening of Jazz with Michelle Coltrane.

This unique concert featuring three dynamic jazz acts will take place at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at the Joe & Vi Jacobs Center, Celebration Hall 404 Euclid Ave., just minutes from downtown San Diego.

Michelle Coltrane, daughter of legendary jazz saxophonist and composer John Coltrane, will make a special appearance in southeastern San Diego’s Diamond Neighborhoods. She will be joined by acclaimed jazz guitarist Shea Welsh and opening act, San Diego’s own Besos de Coco.

Hailed as transcendent by the Los Angeles Times, Michelle Coltrane is quickly becoming a standout on the jazz scene. She and her band will perform their unique retro and modern sound as well as some of her father’s classics.

This special celebration of jazz music dovetails with the Jacobs Center’s mission to foster a thriving community envisioned and realized by its residents. The Jacobs Center works with the community to reinforce the Diamond Neighborhoods as one of San Diego’s nine arts and culture districts.

“The values of the Jacobs Center are closely aligned with what the Coltrane Family believes in - uplifting the spirit of humanity through music and the arts. Music holds the key to transcend cultural differences, and brings people together,” said Michelle Coltrane. “It is my pleasure to perform in your city and share in the revitalization of the community.”

Not only will attendees hear from John Coltrane’s living masterpiece, his daughter, but the Jacobs Center’s Celebration Hall will also be transformed into a jazz style club with intimate lighting, delicious signature cocktails and tapas, and the opportunity for table service in the VIP seating area.

Tickets are on sale now at eventbrite.com.

Ticket options include: a true jazz experience VIP Table of four, priced at $250.00 and including four premium seats, table service, four signature cocktails, and four tapas; a VIP Seat, priced at $55 and including one premium seat, table service and one signature cocktail; and general admission tickets with open seating for $35.

Since the Jacobs Center For Neighborhood Innovation was established in 1995, it has worked to uplift southeastern San Diego, establishing it as a vibrant cultural destination. These efforts happen through creative placemaking, which has meant transforming nearly sixty acres into sustainable developments that provide residents with greater access to resources and amenities that improve their quality of life. Additionally, the Jacobs Center works with community organizations to increase residents’ economic opportunities, leadership skills and educational success.
