It’s a meeting of the Parks!
Petco Park will host a performance by veteran rap-metal band Linkin Park during Comic-Con International: San Diego next month. The Petco gig comes less than two months before Linkin Park’s previously announced Sept. 16 show here at Sleep train Amphitheatre in Chula Vista.
The July 24 performance is being presented by MTV’s 24-hour college network, mtvU. Linkin Park will headline the first-ever “mtvU Fandom Awards” and the corresponding “MTV Fan Fest.” Both events are scheduled for Thursday, July 24, at Petco Park during Comic-Con International: San Diego.
In case you’re not familiar with these awards (which is a safe bet, since they’ve never been presented before), MV describes it thusly:
“The ‘mtvU Fandom Awards’ is the ultimate celebration for diehard fanboys and fangirls to honor their favorite shows and movies of the past year. On Sunday, July 27, at 8 p.m. ET/PT, mtvU will bring the best moments from the show to MTV and mtvU in the 60-minute ‘mtvU Fandom Awards Special,’ showcasing the musical performances and honoring the fans whose tenacious excitement pushes movies, TV, books and comics from subculture to mainstream worldwide success. mtvU will announce Fandom Awards nominees and voting categories at a later date.”
Personally, you had us at “diehard fangirls” and “tenacious excitement” (which is so much better than all those hum-drum other types of excitement, like the kind that occurs nearly every day when I arrive at my desk at work).
But there’s more, at least according to MTV, which in a press release issued Thursday morning quotes Ryan Kroft, the Executive Producer of the “mtvU Fandom Awards.”
