CRSSD Festival announces fall 2017 lineup
Chromeo, Australia’s RÜFÜS DU SOL, Cut Copy and Richie Hawtin head the lineup for the 2017 fall edition of CRSSD Festival at San Diego’s Waterfront Park on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
They are among the first 42 acts confirmed to perform at the sixth edition of the proudly edgy electronic music marathon, which debuted here in 2015 as a showcase for left-of-center house and techno performers.
The lineup for the 21-and-up festival boasts an international flavor. It includes English DJ and producer Mura Masa, French house music star FKJ (short for French Kiwi Juice), German techno DJ Marcel Dettmann, Russian DJ Julia Govor, Bulgarian DJ KINK and Vienna-based producer and singer-songwriter SOHN.
Tickets, priced at $115, go on sale Saturday at noon through the event’s website: crssdfest.com.
The first CRSSD Festival was jointly produced by San Diego’s FNGRS CRSSD and Goldenvoice, the Los Angeles that produces the annual Coachella and Stagecoach festivals in Indio.
Each successive edition of CRSSD has been put on solely by FNGRS CRSSD. The opening day of the first festival drew a capacity audience of 15,000. A majority of the subsequent editions have drawn sell-out or near-capacity crowds.
Intriguingly, attendance dipped when CRSSD Festival’s second edition in 2105 was headlined by two maverick rock bands, Flaming Lips and TV On The Radio, suggesting that attendees at the festival are more excited by DJs and performers with minimal live instrumentation than by more conventionally outfitted bands.
Other CRSSD Fetsival headliners have included Flume, who performed not long after his 2017 Grammy Award win and pioneering DJ Giorgio Moroder, best known for his work with Donna Summer, Blondie and David Bowie.
