The old arena in San Diego’s Midway District is on the verge of gaining another tenant, one that plays a version of football.

Known as the San Diego Strike Force, it stands as the 10th and final club in the Indoor Football League that plans to launch in late February

Pechanga Arena San Diego — known as the San Diego Sports Arena when the building opened in 1966 — will house the games.

An official announcement will come Monday from club President Greg Anderson, General Manager Brian Cox and Ernie Hahn, senior vice president/GM of the arena.

The league’s other teams are the Arizona Rattlers, Bismarck Bucks, Cedar Rapids River Kings, Green Bay Blizzard, Iowa Barnstormers, Nebraska Danger, Quad City Steamwheelers, Sioux Falls Storm and Tucson Sugar Skulls.

The San Diego Fleet of the eight-team Alliance of American Football, a start-up league that has a developmental if informal relationship with the NFL, is to begin its 10-game season Feb. 9, followed by its home opener Feb. 17. The Fleet will play five games at SDCCU Stadium, which opened in 1967 as San Diego Stadium.; Twitter: SDUTKrasovic
