Work out, you must: Yoga and fitness at Comic-Con

Let’s face it, Comic-Con warriors: If you want to keep up the superhuman strength and superhero stamina to navigate the perils and adventures of Comic-Con week, you’re going to have to squeeze in a workout or two, or The Force will not be with you. Besides, just one too many of those signature, locally brewed IPAs, and you’ll be trying to squeeze way more than even superhumanly possible into your superhero tights.

The great thing about San Diego is that we’re not just the Justice League of local brews and Comic-Con. We are the Jedi warrior source for everything from free yoga to whatever your anime alter ego needs to keep The Force with you all week. Carry on, superheroes - here’s your Yoda-approved guide to San Diego Comic-Con fitness.

Hosted by November Project San Diego, the #Cosplay5K is a free 5K run along the Embarcadero. Costumes are required. The run starts at 6:29 a.m. on July 10 - so you’ll finish just in time and with just enough endorphins to kick off your Friday Comic-Con adventures.

The 5K begins at Embarcadero Marina Park South, 200 Marina Park Way.

Group personal training

Sorry, guys, this one is for the superhero girls - so unless you have a really convincing Catwoman or Wonder Woman look, you’ll have to stick to the free 5K and yoga. Hosted by Bootique Fitness, this is a fun, sassy, spunky, boot-camp-style workout session accessible to all fitness levels. There will be two sessions during Comic-Con, on July 8 and July 10. Classes run from 6-6:45 a.m., so you won’t miss out on your scheduled Comic-Con adventures.

Locals can register for a free class on the Bootique web site at Visitors to Comic-Con, bring your Comic-Con badge and mention DiscoverSD for a free workout session.

The workouts are in the Fish Market parking lot at 750 N. Harbor Dr.

Whether you’re looking to stretch out after that 5K or relax from the perils of a day in the life of a superhero, Pura Vida Yoga has a couple of special deals for Comic-Con warriors.

At noon on July 10, you can attend a free Superhero Yoga class if you show up in your favorite superhero costume. Throughout the week, locals and visitors can get a $10 drop-in rate (mat included) by showing up with a Comic-Con badge. Go to for the yoga warrior schedule.
