East Village Opening Day Block Party is back!

In celebration of the Padres’ first game of the 2015 season, East Village will throw its fifth annual Opening Day Block Party when the hometown heroes play their first game this year in Petco Park. This epic, family-friendly event will offer the ultimate in tailgating and will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 9, on J Street between Sixth and 10th avenues.

Coordinated by the East Village Association, the Opening Day Block Party celebrates the kickoff of the 2015 baseball season when the San Diego Padres host the San Francisco Giants for the first game of the season in Petco Park. Admission to the block party is free. Ballgame tickets are sold separately.

The Opening Day Block Party showcases all that the East Village Community has to offer. The party will feature live entertainment from local bands and DJs; a thirst-quenching, micro-brew beer garden between Eighth and Ninth avenues featuring Mission Brewery and Stone Brewery; specialty baseball-themed cocktails from 619 Vodka; as well as a great food selection from delicious local restaurants and fantastic food trucks between Sixth and Seventh avenues. Local FM radio station The Mighty 1090 will broadcast live from the Block Party with plenty of interactive games and more.

The party will even include a country block between Seventh and Eight avenues. Plans for the opening day celebration also include a Line Dancing Flashmob at 1:30 p.m. The dance will be taught ahead of time at Moonshine Flats.
