Looking for something healthy to do before indulging in burgers and brews on Super Bowl Sunday? Hit the Cardiff Kook Run 5K and 10K in Cardiff-by-the-Sea. The fifth annual CKR will take place on Feb. 7, starting near the Encinitas sign on South Coast Highway 101.

CKR’s 5K is a costumed run and attendees are encouraged to enter the costume contest for the chance to win generous cash prizes. First place winners will receive $350; second place will receive $250; third place will receive $100. The costume award ceremony will directly follow the 5K race.

An $8,200 prize will also be awarded to the top six finishers of each division, divided between them. A $250 bonus will also be awarded to any runner who sets a new course record.

The race will take runners by the iconic Cardiff Kook statue, around Highway 101 and down to the scenic views at Cardiff State Beach.

Portions of this year’s proceeds will be donated to selected charities and will also benefit the Cardiff Kook plaza. Registration is now open for each race. All race participants will receive a T-shirt and finisher’s medal.
