Shampoo. Skip the cut. Go straight to the blowdry.
That’s the concept of Irvine-based Drybar, which will open its second location Friday in San Diego County at The Shops at La Jolla Village where Nordstrom Rack opened last October. Drybar’s other local location is in Del Mar.
“San Diego has been a fantastic market for Drybar, so we are thrilled to be expanding,” Drybar founder Alli Webb said. “We have received tons of requests for a Drybar in La Jolla.”
The 1,600-square-foot location in La Jolla is at 8867 Villa La Jolla Drive. It will have 10 styling chairs, flat screens featuring cult favorite chick flicks and all blowouts, regardless of hair length, cost $45 with cocktail names such as Mai Tai (messy and beachy), Manhattan (sleek and smooth) and Cosmo (lots of loose curls).
The first Drybar opened in Brentwood in February 2010. It has been named one of the top “100 Brilliant Ideas of 2010" by Entrepreneur Magazine and New York Magazine’s Boom Brands of 2013.
Today, the resumes of its executives include major companies. Its CEO John Heffner comes from Procter & Gamble and lives in San Diego. Denyelle Bruno, its president of retail operations, comes from Macy’s and Apple. Its CFO Steve Benrubi comes from Domino’s Pizza and CKE Restaurants.
Drybar said it’s on track to have more than 85 locations by the end of the year.
