Local interior designer creates furniture, accessories line

Every wish the inside of your home could look as cool as San Diego hotspots Ironside Fish & Oyster, Kindred, Polite Provisions and Craft & Commerce? The cool vibes created in these restaurants and bars by interior designer Paul Basile are being channeled into a new project available to the public.

BASILE Built, an e-commerce site of furniture and accessories, debuts with 13 one-of-a-kind pieces, including light pendants, tables, and chairs. While the pricing isn’t modest, each piece is sketched and built on site here in San Diego, unlike the high-end foreign made pieces of big-name design companies. With 3D printing, CNC technology, laser cutters, metal and leather work, and hand carpentry, BASILE Built takes every measure to create stunning works for the avid admirer.

Basile comments on the transition, “We field so many requests for one-off projects, this was a natural next step. It’s also another creative outlet for me and my crew to manifest designs that never came to fruition.”

The designer, whose company is BASILE Studio, has been featured in The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal for his unique perspective and obsession-inducing design ideas. In his 20 years of projects, some of his most popular works in San Diego include the death metal meets pink decor of Kindred, the perfectly vintage ambience of Polite Provisions, and the suitcase/repeating fish head wall donning the interior of Ironside.

Here are a few pieces from the new BASILE Built line to check out if looking to freshen up a home or office space.

Meso Concrete Tile: Mid-century design Meso-American architecture in this hand casted concrete tile is made for anyone’s budget. $14.

Generation Table: Reclaimed wood tops an I-beam rolled steel base for that quintessential-industrial meets environmentally-conscious look. $800.

Foundation Chair & Barstool: An oak block seat rests on a rolled steel frame with a waxed canvas cushion for an industrial, sleek look. Cushion colors include olive, navy blue, and orange. $1,200-$1,400 each.

I-Beam Linear Pendant ($2,500-$5,000): With a range of lengths and five- to 10-bulb options, this stunner with Edison lighting will turn any dining room into a showplace. The gunmetal waxed patina will continue to age for an evolving work year after year.
