After a two-year hiatus, The Mustache Bash is back!

Get ready to boogie with some of the best disco and funk music at this 21-and-up affair, happening at the Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier.Guests are highly encouraged to don a mustache — real, fake or finger-drawn — as well as 1970s garb. This year’s event is expected to its biggest yet, with additional areas added to accommodate the growing capacity.

Here’s everything you need to know about the bash.

Music to our ears

In addition to seeing lots of mustaches, expect to hear lots of groovy tunes. All day long, bands and DJs will jam out across three stages. The lineup features headliners Cory Henry and Breakbot & Irfane, along with Horse Meat Disco, Pimps of Joytime, Neal Francis, Yusek, Peanut Butter Wolf, Discotoshi, Abby Normal, She2he and DJ Dials. And make sure you don’t miss the Mustache Family Band — a group of San Diego musicians who come together every year for the event to play classic dance covers.

More than music

The fun doesn’t stop at music and mustaches. Guests can get their grub on at six food trucks — Angelenos WFP, Bacon Nation, Go Go Truck, Heritage LA, Maneating Plant, and Valley Boy Taqueria — and wash it down with drinks from three bars. New this year is an additional gathering area at the entryway of the Port Pavilion, which will be home to the food court, a shade lounge with picnic tables and umbrellas and a few other surprises. Also, head down to the end of the pier to check out the Disco Dome — a large, rounded lounge with mirrors to mimic a disco ball.

Max capacity

Even with the expanded capacity, the 2022 Mustache Bash has sold out. However, tickets from the 2020 event — canceled due to COVID-19 — will also be honored, and some of those folks are unable to make it to the rescheduled event. Check the Mustache Bash’s Facebook page (facebook.com/MustacheBashSD) for potential resale tickets. Hot tip: before you hit buy, email contact@mustachebash.com to verify the seller information. If you can’t score any resale tickets, you can still get in on the funky fun at the afterparty ...

Wait, an afterparty?

Yup! Once the Bash ends, head on over to Spin Nightclub in Middletown to an afterparty. The event, which is co-hosted by Same Same But Different Festival, will feature DJ sets from Derrick Carter and Yuksek. Plus, there will be a “Funk Den” featuring special live funk and DJ performances. At the time this story was filed, tickets were still available online at $35.

Fine print

COVID-19 vaccinations are not required for this event, but guests are asked to stay home if they’re feeling sick. Other things to keep in mind: there are no kids, smoking or professional cameras allowed. There is also no re-entry for this “Rain or Shine” event, so prepare accordingly! (If you’re worried about the weather, a complimentary coat check is available.)
