OB Kite Festival celebrates 71 years of high-flying adventure
Kites of all shapes, sizes, colors and themes will fill the sky over Robb Athletic Field on Saturday at the Ocean Beach Kite Festival. Now in its 71st year, the annual event was started in 1948 by the Ocean Beach Kiwanis as a way to give children the opportunity to design, build and decorate their own kites. Kids will receive instructions on how to build their own kites, then make and decorate them. All materials are supplied. Prizes for best-decorated kites will be given, and several contests by age groups will be awarded. Other features include a carnival, live music, community fair, food booths, professional kite fliers and demonstrations.
Ocean Beach Kite Festival: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Robb Athletic Field, 2525 Bacon St., San Diego. Free admission. oceanbeachkiwanis.org/kite-festival
