The U.S. Sand Sculpting Challenge returns to SD

Share

The Embarcadero will become a giant sandbox as master sculptors from Europe, Asia, Canada and the U.S. shape and scrape larger-than-life images out of 300 tons of sand Labor Day weekend. Although the sand sculptures, which weigh more than 10 tons each, aren’t for sale, local artists will sell their wares in wood, metal, glass, jewelry and clothing.

Also on tap: gourmet food trucks, a beer garden, big bands, singers, dancers, circus performers and kids’ activities. Proceeds from the challenge will benefit four charities that focus on children’s education.

9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday through Monday. B Street cruise ship terminal pier at 1140 N. Harbor Drive, San Diego. $8-$35; discounts for online purchase and active military, fire, police and EMTs. ussandsculpting.com
