Pacific Beachfest returns with music, sports, beer and more

Get ready to eat tacos, hang out in the beer garden, enjoy live music and take part in some outdoor sports - all with views of the ocean at the annual Pacific Beachfest, taking place on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 8 a.m. to sunset.

First and foremost, there will be a “Best of the Beach” fish taco contest that allows you to vote for your favorite fish taco. Attendees can sample tacos from seven different local restaurants for $10. Participating restaurants include Baja Beach Cafe, Pacific Beach Shore Club, The Fish Shop, Sandbar, Cerveza Jack’s, The Local and Backyard.

Pacific Beach is a very active community, so it only makes sense to have a few sports and tournaments throughout the day. There will be a professional volleyball tournament, two 5k races, a surfing competition for all levels and a beach volleyball tournament.

Live music will be pumping as you cruise the boardwalk with two different stages and over 15 different performers like Broken Stems, DJ Slowhand, Psydecar, The Routine, Bang Pow, Split Finger and more. Various shopping vendors will be attendance as well as a beer garden with tons of local craft beer to enjoy for those 21-and-over.

This year, the fest will also introduce a Beachfest BeerCup - taking over the back parking lot of PB Shore Club on Friday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. Breweries will be showcasing their best West Coast IPA for the competition that will feature both a People’s Choice award and a Judge’s Choice award. Participating breweries include Green Flash Brewing Co., Modern Times Beer, Pacific Beach AleHouse, Coronado Brewing Co., Belching Beaver, Iron Fire Brewery, Mother Earth Brewing, Mike Hess Brewing, Amplified Ale Works and Abnormal Beer Co.
