Laughs unlimited at KAABOO Humor Me stage

In year one of KAABOO Del Mar, the people spoke, and this year, the festival’s comedy venue Humor Me was moved to a larger, cooler area complete with plush seats. It was such a hit, in fact, that long lines could be seen for most of the shows during the 3-day event.

Long gone were the days of overheating and trying to force a smile while listening to comedians crack jokes at the fest. Year two delivered comedy-lovers exactly what they wanted: a bigger space, air conditioning and great performers.

Beyond the facility cleaning up it’s act, as promised, it seems as though the acts themselves got dirtier, funnier and featured some incredible, larger-than-life comedians. Some of those in attendance were Dana Carey, Sarah Silverman, Jeff Ross, Vanessa Bayer, Darrell Hammond, Cheech and Chong (insert grassy, 4/20 joke here), and the whacky comedy musical duo Garfunkel and Oates.

Fans flocked to the shows, each filled up with eager onlookers awaiting a relaxed time inside the venue. It was definitely even more apparent at this year’s festival that the whole event really is about so much more than just music. Having a comedy area that could stand on its own two feet as an epic showcase here in San Diego - all while nestled into the chaos of a music festival was pretty outstanding.

Many KAABOO-ers agreed.

“The comedy portion is what I look forward to most all year,” said Brian Roman of Pacific Beach.

“I came last year and it was just way too hot to hang out. It was kind of disappointing because I really love seeing comedy. I love going to comedy shows and so I came out again to see Aerosmith and have been able to catch several comedy acts. I feel like all the issues I had with it last year, even with lines, dissipated to at least a degree this year. It’s been crazy fun.”

With all that’s going on at the festival - from comedy to cooking demos, spa treatments to a diverse music lineup - it was, at times, difficult to make time to experience all that KAABOO had to offer. But for those in need of a good, hardy belly laugh, the Humor Me was worth a visit.
