Latte art competition starts this week
On Thursday, Jan. 15, the San Diego Coffee Network will reignite their Thursday Night Throwdown series, a latte art competition brewing throughout San Diego over the next three months.
The first night of caffeinated competition begins at James Coffee Company in Little Italy this Thursday, then heads to Bean Bar in East Village on Feb. 26, Ironsmith Coffee Roasters in Encinitas on March 26 and will culminate on April 23 at Dark Horse Coffee Roasters in North Park.
Baristas compete in a bracket-style challenge, qualifying through each round with mesmerizing foam fanciness all leading up to the champions bracket finale.
At each event, guests can taste flights of locally roasted coffee, as well as have the opportunity to win raffle prizes. $5 buys five raffle tickets and allows the SDCN to continue to organize these coffee-fueled events.
Barista sign-ups begin at 6 p.m. and end at 6:45 p.m. The competition takes place from 7 to 9 p.m.
