Share

IDEA1, a new mixed-use apartment complex, is opening in the East Village.

The building, which brings 295 apartments, 5,000 square feet of restaurant space and 7,700 feet of office space known as The Hub, was designed with the idea of growing a community of entrepreneurs in the heart of downtown San Diego.

To mark the grand opening, IDEA1 is hosting a grand opening event on Thursday, Dec. 7.

The event, from 7-9 p.m., is open to the public with entry costing $10, with all proceeds going to Urban Discovery Academy, a free-public charter school located in the I.D.E.A. District.

“The grand opening will be the perfect way to participate in the activated spaces including The Hub, penthouse units, exercise room, rooftop clubhouse, water tower spa, IDEA Box and more,” said Pete Garcia of I.D.E.A. Partners.

Food samples from Brian’s 24, Searsucker, Lola 55 and other neighboring eateries will be available, as well as two complimentary drinks. There also will be whiskey tasting and donuts on site.

The aim of the event is to showcase this first step toward establishing the I.D.E.A. District’s “vision of becoming San Diego’s innovation, design, education, arts and technology hub, which aims to create thousands of design and tech jobs in the coming years, across 35 city blocks in Downtown San Diego’s East Village.”

Live music from Follow MDA and performances by Malashock Dance will be the entertainment for the evening, and San Diego Artist Brittany Segal will host an artist showcase.
