Much like a solar eclipse, the FIFA World Cup draws crowds for a grand event to a particular location. For San Diego FIFA fans who could not make the trek to Russia, North Park is here to host its own futbol extravaganza.
On July 15, North Park Main Street, in collaboration with SoccerCitySD, A7D Creative Group, VAVi Sports and Cox Communications, will host what is expected to be one of the nation’s largest free outdoor viewing parties for the FIFA World Cup Championship.
The viewing party will take place along 30th Street, with two massive jumbo-trons placed outside for patrons. Plenty of bars and restaurants will be open to host their own viewing parties inside, as well. Wake up bright and early — the event begins at 7 a.m. with the championship game scheduled for 8 a.m.
Hungry fans can order food from a variety of food trucks and sip drinks from the Mike Hess Beer Garden and 619 Spirits Bloody Mary Bar. Family zones welcome the young soccer fans, so bring the kids along, too.
It’s likely the crowds will flock to the area, so guests are encouraged to come early to reserve a spot for the outdoor viewing party, which drew more than 10,000 patrons during the 2014 viewing party.
In the mean time, there are still a few games to see before the championship. North Park bars such as Mike Hess Brewing, Caffe Calabria, North Park Beer Co. and Bluefoot Bar & Lounge welcome the early birds and soccer aficionados. Or check out this list of World Cup viewing events around San Diego.
