Before the Padres take on the Dodgers at the season’s opener on Tuesday, April 9 (game time 3:40 p.m.), true fans get the celebration started at the East Village Opening Day Block Party. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., one of the largest community displays of Padres-power will take over J Street between 7th and 10th Avenue. Hardcore baseball fanatics and those with unabashed San Diego pride will start their march towards Petco Park early, awakening the spirit of baseball season.
This free, all-day outdoor event is open to the public, inviting fans to relish in the live music, local artisans, food trucks and a Stone Brewing Beer Garden, along with activities for the young ones. A rock wall, carnival games and over 30 food and retail booths present fun for all, while featured bands provide the energetic soundtrack. This year, catch The Yes Team, Left4dead and The Paul Cannon Band.
All proceeds from the event support the mission of the nonprofit East Village Association, which promotes East Village businesses by establishing the community as San Diego’s livable urban village. Last year, an estimated 25,000 people flooded the streets of East Village in a display of community enthusiasm. For more information, visit eastvillagesandiego.com.
