‘Hamilton’ lottery announced for San Diego

Check out how to get ahold of $10 tickets to musical’s touring production in San Diego

“Hamilton” fans, rejoice — particularly if you’re feeling lucky: 35 orchestra-section seats will officially be available for every performance of the megahit musical’s upcoming run in San Diego, via a digital lottery.

And they’re priced at the very reasonable sum of one Hamilton ($10) apiece.

Lottery tickets have been available for the show’s Broadway production and all previous tour stops; now presenter Broadway/San Diego has announced the particulars for the San Diego Civic Theatre run, Jan. 6-28.

Here’s how the #Ham4Ham lottery works:

The digital lottery will begin two days before each performance.

You can enter using the official “Hamilton” app, available for all iOS and Android devices in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store: (You can also set up the app to remind you when a lottery is opening.)

Or, you can visit online to register.

The lottery will open at 11 a.m. Pacific time two days before each performance date, and will close for entry at 9 a.m. the day before the performance.

Winner and non-winner notifications will be sent at approximately 11 a.m. the day before the performance, via email and SMS (if you provide your mobile number).

Only one entry is allowed per person. Repeat entries and disposable email addresses will be discarded.

Lottery winners may buy one or two tickets. The tickets must be purchased online with a credit card by 4 p.m. the day before the performance using the purchase link and code sent in a customized notification email. Tickets not claimed by 4 p.m. the day before the performance are forfeited.

Lottery tickets may be picked up at will call beginning 3 hours before the performance with a valid photo ID. Lottery tickets are void if resold.

Additional rules: Again, the limit is one entry per person, per performance. Multiple entries will not be accepted. Patrons must be age 18 or older and have a valid, non-expired photo ID that matches the name used to enter.

Tickets are non-transferable. Ticket limits and prices displayed are at the sole discretion of the show and are subject to change without notice.

“Hamilton” has its first San Diego performances this Saturday (Jan. 6), meaning the first lottery should be open for entry at 11 a.m. this Thursday (Jan. 4).

Look for our full preview story on the show online tomorrow, and in this Thursday’s edition of the U-T’s Night&Day.

And to all lottery hopefuls: Good luck!
