Summer camps at NTC

Many adults have fond memories of summers spent at camp as children, where opportunities for building lifelong friendships and new experiences were gained. Building confidence, meeting new friends and staving off summertime boredom are just some of the benefits of summer camp for children.

This summer, students can get creative at the NTC Arts & Culture District in Liberty Station. The former Naval Training Center - where sailors once trained for military service - has been transformed to accept a new generation of recruits, who will get their training in the arts, music and dance.

The NTC Arts & Culture District is the site of classes and workshops hosted by dozens of cultural groups throughout the year, but this summer with over 10 camp providers Summer Camps at NTC is Where KIDS Get Creative.

A free NTC Summer Camp Open House is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 18. During the open house, parents will have the opportunity to learn about the camps, visit the art studios, meet instructors and explore the NTC campus. Organizations offering summer camp programs will display information about their offerings during the open house at the Dick Laub NTC Command Center, 2640 Historic Decatur Road.

Summer Camps at NTC are ideal for families looking for creative experiences for their children, ages 4 to 17. The camps feature music, dance, theater, creative writing, hands-on art making, photography and more, all in the historic heart of Liberty Station.

“This summer, kids can explore and discover new skills in San Diego’s growing Arts and Culture District,” said NTC Foundation Executive Director Alan Ziter. “We encourage parents to let their kids get creative with local artists this summer.”

Participating organizations include Banyan Tree Learning Center, Bravo School of Art, California Ballet School, Mathnasium Point Loma, Monart School of Art, Outside the Lens, Recreational Music Center, San Diego Ballet, San Diego Watercolor Society and Theatre Arts School of San Diego.
