Looking for something a little more adventurous than Netflix tonight? Rooftop Cinema Club has you covered.
Located on the rooftop of Manchester Grand Hyatt in downtown, this innovative theater originated in London and now calls four other U.S. cities home. The company describes its under-the-sky experience as “social cinema” and features both sunsets and stars. Attendees can enjoy a variety of films, ranging from cult classics to recent blockbusters in an open-air atmosphere.
The 2019 season opens April 3 with the classic 1978 hit Grease starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, which also features a sing-along element. Can’t make it tonight? Check out the full opening week schedule below.
Thursday, April 4: Bohemian Rhapsody
Friday, April 5: A Star is Born
Saturday, April 6: The Greatest Showman
Other highlights this month include Top Gun (Thursday, April 11), Pulp Fiction (Wednesday, April 17) and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (Thursday, April 25). The fun continues in May, with a film lineup focusing on 1980s hits such as The Breakfast Club (Wednesday, May 1), Coming to America (Thursday, May 9) and Back to the Future (Friday, May 17).
There are also two upcoming themed nights: Selena on Thursday, April 18 and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial on Wednesday, May 8. Both screenings feature small, film-related surprises throughout the evening.
“[It’s] such a fun and diverse lineup of films we have for everyone,” Rooftop Cinema Club Founder Gerry Cottle Jr. said in a recent press release. “Come on out to Rooftop Cinema and enjoy a beautiful night out with friends, family and loved ones, and enjoy great film outdoors in an amazing city.”
With cozy blankets, comfy deckchairs and wireless headphones, Rooftop Cinema Club screenings mimic the streaming-at-home atmosphere. Yet, the outdoor atmosphere offering cocktails and food specials, also invites attendees to interact and bond together through the cinematic experience before the opening credits roll.
Tickets start at $17, with free four-hour parking validation in the hotel structure with any food or drink purchase. For a $20 ticket, attendees can add bottomless popcorn into the mix, or make it a date night for $24, which includes a double love-seat to share that popcorn together.
For those nights you need time away from your couch, think about opting for the rooftop this year.
