‘Freaky Friday’ sticking around a little longer

Share

“Freaky Friday” will live to hit the stage another day. (Or week, actually.)

La Jolla Playhouse announced Feb. 14 that it’s adding one more extension to the run of the Disney-connected musical.

The show will now continue through March 19. The Playhouse says this will be the final possible extension, as “Freaky” has firm dates for follow-up engagements in Cleveland and Houston.

“Freaky Friday” is based on the book by Mary Rodgers as well as the two Disney movie adaptations; the musical comedy tells the story of a mom and daughter who suddenly switch bodies and must deal with life in each other’s shoes.

The show stars Broadway’s Heidi Blickenstaff and Emma Hunton, and is directed by Playhouse artistic chief Christopher Ashley.

A digital cast recording of the musical, featuring songs by the Pulitzer Prize-winning team of Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey (“Next to Normal”), was released last Friday and is available on the Disney Music site.

The actual album goes on sale next month.
