Spanish Village Art Center plays host to ‘largest glass show in Southern California’

Hailed as the largest glass show in Southern California, the Art Glass Guild Fall Show & Sale hits Balboa Park this weekend, Oct. 14-15.

Featuring an array of local San Diego artisans, the annual show will feature 30 juried artists on the patio of the Spanish Village Art Center with all members of the guild exhibiting throughout the complex. With works ranging from the whimsical to the optically stunning and live music to boot, there’s is something for every aesthetic taste.

An eye-popping range of glass making techniques can be explored at the show including blown, fused, torch, the popular stained glass, cast, etched and the beautiful intricacy of mosaic. For those interested in learning about specific techniques, there will be live demonstrations of torch work and glass cutting. For interactive fun, adults and burgeoning child artists can create their own mosaic pieces to take home.

The Art Glass Guild is sister to the oldest glass organization in the country, the Art Glass Association of Southern California. The local guild is a nonprofit arts education center that strives to support San Diego glass artists and welcome the community into this specific area of the art world by holding demonstrations and classes for the public. They also operate a retail space in Spanish Village Art center of Balboa Park in Studio 25 for take home goodies and collector’s items.

The Art Glass Guild Fall Show & Sale is free and pet friendly, and runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
