Top concerts this week in San Diego (May 27-June 2)

Performances coming to San Diego this week include Elle King, 93.3 Summer Kick Off, Brad Paisley and J.I.D.

5.29: Elle King

The 29-year-old powerhouse blues/rock singer, songwriter and actress has been the opening act for everyone from Ed Sheeran and Train to Modest Mouse and the Dixie Chicks. King released her second studio album, Shake the Spirit, last year.

@ House of Blues,

5.29: The Hives & Refused

It’s a double dose of Swedish goodness as garage rockers The Hives and post-hardcore punks The Refused join forces on their Scream Team co-headlining tour. L.A. pop punk duo Bleached opens the show.

@ Observatory North Park,

5.31: 93.3 Summer Kick Off w/ Halsey

Is it summer yet? Can’t really tell with the wildly indecisive California weather lately. But if hanging with Halsey, Ellie Goulding, Bebe Rexha and more means it’s time to kick spring to the curb, well then, bring it on.

@ Pechanga Arena,

5.30, 31: The Specials

The 2 Tone/Ska legends hit 40 years together last year and celebrated with a stop at the House of Blues downtown. Still led by founding members Lynval Golding and Horace Panter, as well as original member Terry Hall, the band released their eighth studio album, Encore, in February. It’s their first album of original material since 1998 and their first with Hall since 1981’s classic single, Ghost Town.

@ House of Blues,

5.31: Gryffin

Dan Griffith, aka New York house DJ and classically trained pianist Gryffin, released his debut EP, Gravity, Pt. 1, last December. An eight-track remix companion EP (with remixes from Steve Aoki, Madison Mars, Bart B, and more) followed in March, and it is said that Griffith is set to release Gravity, Pt. 2 very soon.

6.1: Josh Wink

The veteran Philly-born DJ and co-founder of Ovum Recordings has remixed the likes of Moby, Depeche Mode, Gorillaz, Paul Oakenfold and many more. Last year, Wink remixed his own 1995 track, I’m Ready, which he released under the alias Size 9.

@ Quartyard,

6.1: Brad Paisley

The country superstar scored his fifth straight No. 1 album with 2017’s guest-filled (Mick Jagger, John Fogerty, Timbaland) Love and War. Although the three-time Grammy-winner hasn’t produced a collection of songs since, he has released a pair of singles – 2018’s Bucked Off and March’s My Miracle.

@ North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre,

6.2: J.I.D

Signed to J. Cole’s Dreamville Records, the Atlanta-born rapper released his sophomore album, DiCaprio 2, last November. In addition to an appearance from his label boss, the album also features Method Man, Joey Bada$$, A$AP Ferg, BJ the Chicago Kid and 6lack.
