Karen Pearlman


Karen Pearlman has been covering the East County of San Diego, including its schools, government, water and fire district governing boards, since 2010. Before joining The San Diego Union-Tribune as a sports news assistant in 1996, she spent nearly 10 years covering sports and editing news stories at The Daily Californian in El Cajon ~ this after three years as a sports writer at The Star-News in Chula Vista. Karen covers the happenings in La Mesa, El Cajon, Santee and Lemon Grove, as well as outlying eastern county areas including Alpine, Buckman Springs, Campo, Casa de Oro, Crest, Deerhorn Valley, Dehesa, Dulzura, Fletcher Hills, Guatay, Jacumba, Jamul, Lakeside, Mount Helix, Pine Valley, Rancho San Diego and Spring Valley. A San Diegan since 1979, Karen is a graduate of Patrick Henry High, Grossmont College and San Diego State, where she earned a degree in Journalism (News-Editorial emphasis with a minor in Health Science) and covered finance and sports for The Daily Aztec for four years. She lives in the Mission Trails area of San Diego.
