Before craft beer was a big thing in San Diego there was coffee. Small roasteries, including Pannikin and Café Moto, have grown into modernized coffee powerhouses. The Café Moto roaster in Barrio Logan is completely solarized and produces about 3,000 pounds per day. Plus, a lesson in fare trade coffee and what the future of coffee in San Diego looks like.
Edwin Real, of Facebook group Eating and Drinking San Diego, sits down with Torrey Lee of Café Moto to talk about how the company he runs with his wife grew and evolved from a small peanut roaster in La Jolla that was converted into a coffee roastery in 1968 to what it is today in Barrio Logan.
