Everyone raise a glass. We made it through MLB All-Star Week. Undeniably, having all eyes on us as we played host to some of the most recognizable players in baseball felt pretty amazing. As what some would call a wannabe-sports city, San Diego finally had a major moment at Petco Park, with legends, celebs and fans rubbing shoulders and splitting fries. While all the attention sure is great for our ego, I have some good news. This upcoming weekend is ours. Here's what I mean. Next weekend, we'll be inundated again by out-of-towners. We'll have to share our sidewalks and freeways and parking garages with Wonder Woman, Spiderman and R2-D2. Comic-Con will take over downtown for four days of madness. So while there's certainly a lot going on around town these next few days, every event seems tailored just for us locals to enjoy, a series of beloved traditions that we hold close to our hearts. First, there's Opening Day in Del Mar, taking place on a Friday this year. As one of my favorite days of the year, Opening Day brings the best (and worst) out of us. The hot dresses and hot messes collide in one big hat-covered affair, where everyone who's anyone takes the day off work to caravan up the I-5 in party buses, limos and Ubers. It's a fantastic display of fanciful attire mixed with alcohol-fueled debauchery, and it's likely something that a visiting tourist might not understand. But it's ours, and we wouldn't have it any other way. For the full run down of the can't-miss after parties, click here. San Diego Pride Fest kicks off on Friday night with one of the biggest outdoor block parties taking over the streets of Hillcrest with all-around good-time vibes synonymous with freedom, acceptance and love. Pride continues through the Saturday morning parade and music festival, which keeps on trucking until Sunday. While many cities around the country have their own admirable Pride Fests, we think there's something truly special about San Diego's version. Make Hillcrest your home this weekend and find out more about everything scheduled for Pride here. If you couldn't tell from our cover this week, we're a tad excited about the Yoga on the USS Midway event put on by the Downtown San Diego Partnership. Taking place on one of the most iconic fixtures in San Diego, the USS Midway, the waterfront class doesn't get more quintessential San Diego than this. Read more about the event and teachers from Yoga One here. Enjoy this weekend, San Diego, and the elbow room before the superheroes storm through. This one is just for us. Source: DiscoverSD
