Aw shucks! Oysters will be pried apart across San Diego next week in anticipation of National Oyster Day on Aug. 5. Bivalve specials will be offered everywhere from Stake Chophouse & Bar (Coronado) to Blue Point Coastal Cuisine (Gaslamp) and Ironside Fish & Oyster (Little Italy). On Tuesday, Aug. 2, Ironside will hold its third annual Charity Shuck-a-Thon, featuring a different local chef or personality each hour to see who can open the most. Last year's winner, Carmine Lopez of Great Maple, shucked 899 oysters in 60 minutes, narrowly beating pastry queen Rachel King, who managed 868 shucks. 3 to 10 p.m. Tuesday. Ironside Fish & Oyster, 1654 India St., Little Italy. Event is free to attend; oysters $1 each. (619) 269-3033 or ironsidefishandoyster.com Source: DiscoverSD
