10 best Taco Tuesday spots in San Diego

For those who live outside of San Diego, eating tacos on a Tuesday might seem like a meaningless affair. But for us, it's a weekly fiesta because our tacos are arguably the tastiest and freshest in the U.S. (thanks much, Mexico.) It is standard procedure to plan your Tuesday around this quintessential ritual of finding the most delicious deals, including a margarita (or two) and a killer location. Taco Tuesday deals include three fish, carne asada, al pastor or corn tacos for $5. The best part is that you can get specialty tacos in this mix like shrimp, lengua and cabeza tacos for the same price. Tacos Perla Gourmet tortillas are made on site, filled with interesting taco options like the "ocho" made of octopus, avocado and pesto. The craft experience is what makes this taco shop more than just a street-taco style spot. The veggie specials, mahi-mahi options and the standard fish taco are all made with care. Definitely add some of their seared chili to your taco to kick the spice up a notch. Their salsa bar is nothing to scoff at either, with entirely hand-crafted options like pineapple-basil and carrot-habanero. El Trebol Mariscos Taco Tuesday is all about getting the most for your money and eating mass amounts of tacos. Here, you get two-for-one tacos of any variety every Tuesday. This means that you could enjoy four tacos for the price of two. Each guest receives a a complimentary seafood broth with any fish taco, as well. Just blocks from the beach, this is the perfect stop after a surf-session. The Brigantine The Brig is a classic seafood restaurant in SD that makes it easy to enjoy taco Tuesday all over the county. With locations in Poway, Del Mar, Coronado, La Mesa, Eastlake and Escondido, you're certainly never too far from their cuisine. Their TT specials are what keep locals hooked. Oscar's Mexican Seafood Battered-fish tacos for only 99-cents? Yup. Oscar's is the most affordable option for a Taco Tuesday hook-up. The portions are larger than a measly street taco, which ensure that with just a couple bucks, you'll be satisfied. Something else worth trying while you're there is the ceviche for $4.50, fresh and topped with avocado and shrimp. City Tacos In the heart of North Park, City Tacos is one our favorites, partially because they partner with Mike Hess brewing to give us two awesome locations to enjoy their fresh fare at. All tacos are $3 and the options are endless. They offer tacos topped with pineapple, chorizo-asado, mahi-mahi with mango, chicken with toasted almonds and grilled portabella with veggies, to name a few. Baja Betty's This lively, hip taco joint offers the best of traditional and trendy. Their Taco "Twosdays" are easy on the pockets and heavy on flavor. From 6 to 11 p.m., you not only get tacos for $2, but meat and veggie-filled tostadas and specialty bean-and-cheese dips as well. Don't forget the drinks that go along with unwinding at Betty's. El Camino With a full karaoke bar and lots of willing participants, El Camino is not a place you go to just have one taco. It's an experience. The Taco Tuesday specials are undeniably great, while still offering quality meals. Two-dollar a-la-carte tacos include chicken asada, al pastor and camaron asado tacos and the rajas, a chile poblano taco, amongst others. La Puerta Dive-y in atmosphere with south-of-the-border flavor, La Puerta always offers delicious grub for a Taco Tuesday celebration. La Puerta is one of the few locations that really nails it on drink specials for Taco Tuesday as well.
