Ugly Dog Contest a thing of beauty

K.C. Alfred

We’ve all heard the saying, “A face only a mother could love.” Well, here’s a contest that proves that wrong.

Canines will be getting their coats brushed and nails buffed in preparation for the annual Ugly Dog Contest in Del Mar.

Furry Fidos of all shapes and sizes can compete in categories such as “most unusual markings,” “best trick,” “best costume” (adult and child categories) and, of course, “ugliest dog.”

First-, second- and third-place winners in each category will be howling with excitement as they receive gift baskets filled with doggy goodies.

Check-in starts at 10 a.m. Sunday. Contests begin at 11:15 a.m.

Proceeds benefit the San Diego Humane Society and Reality Changers.
