Can’t Weight?
When Brian Kawano and Rodrigo Iglesias took over the former Downtown Fitness gym on Seventh Avenue last fall, they inherited the first indoor climbing wall ever built in the city. It’s 40 feet from top to bottom.
Today, Kawano and Iglesias have equally high hopes for their reinvigorated and renamed Balanced Fitness and Health. Kawano believes it’s the latter part of that moniker that separates his gym from the pack.
“We realized that the fitness aspect is only one small piece of the puzzle of being truly healthy and happy,” he says. “We looked to create a network of health-care professionals who work together for the [gym] member.”
This network includes a registered dietitian and a chiropractor, both of whom offer members free initial consultations, as well as a general practitioner, a dentist and a sports psychologist.
Balanced Fitness and Health caters to busy Downtown professionals with time-efficient offerings such as “30/30” classes, half-hour workouts designed to be coupled with a second workout later in the day.
“The people we draw here in the financial district are very motivated, professionally and health-wise,” Kawano says.
